How to Seed Dahlias Tips from Expert Dahlia Grower Reveals All

Seeding Dahlias When Nature Fails

President Alf from the Portland Dahlia Society Inc,  reveals How to Take Seeds from Dahlias when there are insufficient bees around to do the job for you.

Alf  is working with Cactus Dahlias.

He shows examples of pollen just starting to ripen, a pod done 3-4 days ago, and a pod done a couple of weeks ago (which is nearly ready to pick).

Heavy dews can rot the seeds.  So you can cut the stem, put it in water and into a hot-house to finish the process.   The pod will mature with the water and warmth of the hot-house.

Then you can break open the pods when they get to a strawberry-colour, remove the seeds and dry them on paper.

Alf then goes on to show you:

How to Hand Pollinate your Dahlia Buds

How to determine when a pod is ready to seed

How to Dry your Seeds

How to Store your Seeds
